Shield Pad is about a host who instructs the audience on how people (especially women) can protect themselves when traveling to Iran. The host presents a period pad as a multi-purpose object, one that can safeguard women in various ways: from using it as a hijab to transforming it into a shield that makes the body and face bulletproof.
The performance is inspired by the Woman, Life, Freedom movement in Iran, during which women used period pads to cover cameras in subways and streets, hiding their faces, and protecting themselves and others, in the midst of the protests to avoid being identified and arrested.

Sara is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of theatre, clowning, and performance. She began her career in 2014 and holds both a BA and MA in Theatre from the University of Tehran. Following the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, she chose to stop performing under the mandatory hijab and shifted her focus to teaching clowning, directing underground performances, and writing plays and scripts. She has received two awards for Best Female Lead Actress and continues to teach and mentor emerging artists as a clown educator and theatre practitioner.
