L'albâtre

Clara Delorme

FRANCE / SWITZERLAND

Candor and nudity. The solo of a white body against a white background. A body inhabiting the void and the beating of its own skin. An animal body, of which we do not know if it is being born or performing its final swan song. Some will briefly distinguish the bird, the insect, the snake, through the characteristic movement of a wing, a pupil, or a tail. Others will instead see a piece of meat on a meat tray—all bones, muscles, and tendons. At the border of choreography and dance, L’albâtre is a clear and intense performance, a square—rather than a sphere—elevated and out of time. A score of breath and apnea, of stillness and silence, with a body that detaches and moves away from the everyday toward the absurd.
